How Limited Representation Works

Limited-scope legal services focus on specific tasks rather than full case representation. This type of representation is permitted under Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct when the client agrees to a defined scope of services.

Examples of limited-scope services include:

  • drafting court documents

  • preparing for hearings

  • reviewing filings

  • answering procedural questions

Unless specifically agreed in writing, services do not include:

  • court appearances

  • ongoing case management

  • communication with opposing parties or opposing counsel

Representation begins only after a written agreement describing the scope of services is signed.

Services are currently available only for Minnesota legal matters.
